Five Teachers Join GHES Staff

Margaret Strand is the new speech services teacher at GHES. Prior to coming to GHES, Strand taught at Voyager Elementary in Alexandria for the past 12 years. She has also spent time as the Speech Clinician in the Cyrus and Hancock schools. Along with her husband Dave, the couple farms southwest of Starbuck. They have two adult children Cory and Laura, both graduates of MAHS. Strand, who had just retired from full-time teaching when she was contacted about the opening, said she is looking forward to working with the children at GHES. "I love working with kids and believe my experience in education and speech pathology can benefit the GHES educational team," she said.

Tracy Frykman

A recent graduate of Concordia College, Tracy Frykman is the new third grade teacher at GHES. Frykman, who lives in Barrett with her husband Jared, said she came to GHES because of the small town atmosphere and friendly people. In addition, she said is looking forward to beginning her teaching career and helping children learn. "I want to touch the lives of kids and help them grow as people and succeed in life," she said. Katie Heidelberger A December graduate of the University of Minnesota, Duluth, Katie Heidelberger is the new Spanish teacher for K-6 and Title 1 teacher at GHES. Heidelberger is married to Joseph. She said she is excited to be a part of the new Spanish program, and is looking forward to working in her home town. "It's going to be great working back in my home town with many former teachers," said Heidelberger.

Jim Kennedy

Jim Kennedy is the new phy ed. teacher at GHES after previously teaching at Cyrus Math, Science, and Technology School. He is married to his wife Dana and they have two sons, Aiden, three-years-old, and Easton, eight months old. In addition to teaching phy ed. to GHES students and helping the students be active during the school day, Kennedy said he came to GHES, "not only to be part of a great community, but also contribute to its success," he said.
