Eva Swensrud voted for the first time during Tuesday’s primary election. Swensrud became a U.S. Citizen last year.

Though she came to Starbuck in 1977 when she married her husband Orlin, Eva Swensrud became a United States citizen just last year.

Though the Swedish native could have became a citizen years ago, she said she never got around to filling out the large amount of paperwork or paying the large fee associated with becoming a citizen.

However, last year Swensrud studied, filled out the paperwork, and paid the fee to officially become a United States citizen.

On Tuesday, Swensrud exercised one of her fundamental new rights as a citizen, voting for the first time in the primary election.
