"After I applied for the job, they made me an offer I couldn’t refuse," said Schlief who is enjoying her new position in the city office.
Living just a few miles west of Starbuck, the new position will not only cut down on her commute every day, but allow her to continue to interact with people both young and old something that she said is a highlight of each work day.

Before coming to the Starbuck City Office, Schlief worked in the Pope County Auditor and Treasurer office from 1983-1995 before taking a hiatus and working with Computer Professionals in Morris from 1995-2004. She returned to the Pope County Treasurer Office four years ago.
For the past 25 years, 23 of which she has been a trained volunteer, Schlief has spent her Wednesday evenings working as a volunteer for the Awana program at First Baptist Church in Glenwood. Overseeing a variety of activities for children young and old, Schlief said “it’s the fastest 1 1/2 hour’s I spend all week.”

While she enjoys her time at the Awana volunteer, nothing can come close to her enjoyment from spending time with her grandchildren. The mother of two sons, Schlief has four grandchildren who live in Danvers, and said “they are wonderful.” She said she enjoys every minute she can spend with the three granddaughters and grandson. Schlief’s other son currently lives in Penn Valley, Calif.
