This year, Quandt said there were just two changes voters should be aware of before heading to the polls. One change is aimed at making it easier for those who are overseas to vote, by emailing an envelope and ballot to voters and having the ballot mailed back. The other change allows people to use bills from the internet as proof of residency, provided the bill meets certain criteria, such as having the person’s address on the bill.

Registering

In Minnesota, voters can register the day of elections, but will need to provide certain forms of identification and proof of residency. To register on the day of the election voters must have one of the following with your current name and address to prove residency in the precinct to verify your address:

• A valid Minnesota driver’s license, learner’s permit, Minnesota ID card, or receipt for any of these
• A valid student ID card including your photo, if your college has provided a student housing list to election officials
• A Tribal ID card that contains your picture and signature
• A valid registration in the same precinct under a different name or address
• A notice of late registration sent to you by your county auditor or city clerk
• A voter registered in the same precinct as you who can confirm your address with a signed oath
• An employee of the residential facility where you live who can confirm your address with a signed oath.

Don’t have an updated drivers license or have you recently moved, voters can alternatively provide a proof of identification from the list below as well as a current bill with your current name and address in the precinct.

1. Photo identification (may be expired)
• Minnesota Driver’s License
