In other action:• Approved minutes from the September 22 regularly scheduled GHES Board meeting, as well as the October 2 and October 23 special meeting minutes. • Approved bills totalling $4,951.53. • Heard from Kurt Swensrud on behalf of the by-laws committee who said work has begun to clarify the school’s by-laws, including that of board elections and the annual meeting, which will be addressed at an upcoming meeting. • Heard from Joy Peterson on behalf of the nominating committee who said they are currently working on a guideline and ethic statement for board members to sign. She said the committee is also working on a letter to send out to parents to see who is interested in running for school board positions. • Appointed Board member Mike Scott to replace Board Chair Lara Amundson as the CSP Federal Grant Authorized Official. • Approved a quarter page ad in the upcoming Minnewaska Lakes Area Visitors Guide. • Approved sending Business Manager Steve Dinsmore to a Region 1 workshop in Rochester. • Approved hiring temporary computer tech help to set up computers at GHES. The board discussed calling out for bids should the need continue for computer help at the school. • Heard from Amundson who updated the board on the federal grant. She reported several changes were made to the grant including allocating some of the bills differently. Of the original $360,000 Federal Grant Start-up money the school was scheduled to receive in its first three years, Amundson reported GHES has approximately half of the money from the grant left. She said the school will receive two more payments of $79,200 in addition to receiving a 12 percent hold-back before the grant expires in September of 2009. • Approved first readings for policy numbers 302 (importance and role of the school director), 303 (school director selection), 304 (school director contract, duties and evaluation), 305 (school board policy implementation), and 306 (administrator code of ethics). • Approved the second readings for policy numbers 614 and 618 (MCA Testing), and 605 and 608 (Inclusion of an Education Plan). • Approved implementing a school wellness policy for both the staff and students. The policy will encourage health eating and physical activity patterns for both the students and staff associated with GHES. |
