While some of the plans currently call for new buildings to be placed where there are existing homes or businesses, Vaadeland said “we don’t want to move anyone out of their home if they don’t want to leave.” Yet, she said the plan is meant at enhancing what is already here, while helping the town grow for the future. Relying on private investors Vaadeland said there has been some interest expressed in building some of the planned components. However, before continuing further, Vaadeland was asking for the city’s permission and support of moving forward. Vaadeland also requested permission from the city to ask the State DNR to expand the current marina. While the city was unsure if such an expansion would get passed through the State DNR, Councilman Larry Noyes said rather than doing nothing, “I think it is worth a chance to let someone look into it.” The council then granted Vaadeland permission for the group to contact the State DNR to inquire about expanding the current marina. Bond PaymentsIn addition to hearing about the 25-year Revitalization Plan, the City of Starbuck also approved bonding the December 1 and 15 general obligation bonds. Facing a potential budget shortfall, the city reportedly would not have been able to make the payments without the new bond. For more information about the new bond, and other information about Monday’s meeting, check out next week’s issue of the Times. |
