Long-time Starbuck Times publisher and owner, Ron Lindquist, passes away

12CLindquistLong-time Starbuck Times plblisher and owner, Ron Lindquist, passed away last week at the age of 71.

Ron, who along with his wife of 46 years, Ann, purchased the Times in 1981 from Stan and Sylvia Behl, was involved in countless organizations while living in Starbuck including time on the hospital board, the Lions Club, and served as the first commissioner of the Starbuck Little League Baseball program.

Under Ron and Ann’s guidance, the Times was honored with a number of Minnesota Newspaper Association awards for journalistic excellence including the prestigious “Herman V. Roe Memorial Editorial Award” in 1987. The award is given to the top single editorial column in Minnesota. In addition, the Times also won awards in the categories of “Editorial Page as a Whole,” and “Sports Page as a Whole.”

The Lindquist’s owned and operated the Times until they sold the newspaper to John R. and Mary Stone in 1999.

After retiring from the newspaper business in 2002, Ron earned a Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of North Dakota and was inducted into the Delta Mu Chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity’s Hall of Fame.
