Though Dave said the two never really thought about the weather when planning their wedding and honeymoon, Mother Nature will forever remain at the forefront of the two's wedding day.

As rain continued to fall, and freeze on the road throughout the day, the two became concerned over how they would get to the Twin Cities to make their flight for their honeymoon the next morning. As their concern over the icy roads grew, the newly married couple decided to skip their entire wedding dance at Lakeside Ballroom, and drive to the Twin Cities to ensure they would make their flight the next day.

"I think we are probably the only people in the world who missed our own wedding dance," said Colleen.

While they were able to make their flight to Vail, Colorado, Colleen said the one big regret the two have about their wedding day is not attending their wedding dance. In hindsight, she wishes they would have scheduled the flight differently to plan for inclement weather. Though they didn't attend the dance, she heard from family and friends the reception was a lot of fun.

Thirty-three years later, the two remain married and this year may have received their best anniversary present yet, the birth of their first grandchild.

The parents of two daughters, Hollie and Kristi, the Johnsrud's recently marked the momentous occasion with a week-long trip to California to meet their first-born grandchild.

The daughter of Hollie and John, the newest member of the family was born on January 11, 2009, and named Maela.

Holding their first granddaughter was something both grandparents said was the perfect present, something a gift, card (Dave said finding a Valentine's Day/Anniversary card has proven quite challenging), or box of chocolates could ever match.
