So when a man visited him at Prairie Lakes Coop last year to inquire about heating a shed he planned to use to create wood-carving statues, Gorder did what any collector with three poplar tree stumps in his yard would do-he asked whether the artist could make a rendering of a firefighter for his front yard.

The wooden statue was based on a firefighter statue Gorder has in his basement. The long-time fire chief has a large collection of firefighter statues.

"Just for the fun of it I asked him about it," joked Gorder.
