Nearly three years of planning, construction, and delays came to an eventful conclusion Monday morning at Glacial Lakes State Park.

After receiving $150,000 in earmarked funds as part of a $2 million bonding bill aimed at increasing the amount of cabins in the state park system in 2006, GLSP has been waiting for the arrival of four new cabins to add to its collection.

Following a change in the standards for the cabins, as well as a backlog in construction, the state park celebrated the arrival of the first two cabins via a flatbed trailer Monday. The remainder of the cabins are expected to be at the park sometime in the next week.

"It's nice to have them on the ground, because we've been talking about it for a while now," said GLSP Manager Matt Feigum.

The cabins are currently on blocks near their intended home, a crane will lower the cabins to the ground within the next few weeks. Once the cabins are in place, Feigum said they will be hooked up with electricity, a porch will be built, before it is inspected and opened to the public.

The four new cabins will have heat and electricity to allow for year-round use. Two of the four cabins will be placed right across from the boat access with the remaining cabins being located near the beach.
