The new equipment is an innovative concept in playgrounds.

Some of the features include: slides, gliders, climbers, monkey bars, bridges and more. This equipment encourages aerobic activity, helps children build strength and enhances problem-solving and creativity skills as well as improves balance and coordination.

The most unique feature is that the design has no prescribed entry or exit point, letting kids create their own play experience.

The goal is to have the new equipment in place prior to Waterama this year.

The estimated total project cost is $45,000.

Glenwood & Beyond has already raised some funds through prior fundraising efforts, and they have been fortunate enough to receive a local grant to match the final third of the project cost. In order to accomplish the goal, Glenwood & Beyond needs to raise $20,000 through fundraising efforts and donations from the community. They also need several volunteers to help with assembly a few days in mid-July. An assembly supervisor will be provided by the company the playground equipment is purchased from.

Glenwood & Beyond will be hosting several fundraisers this summer. Our fundraising efforts will kick off Wednesday, May 20th, with Pizza Ranch of Glenwood donating a portion of all sales from 4:00-8:00 p.m. The Second Annual Glenwood & Beyond Golf Classic will be held on Friday, June 12th at the Minnewaska Golf Course. This year's event also features a catered dinner, live band and beer garden at the course. Golfers are being solicited at this time, so please contact Kellie Janssen @ (320) 763-0208 to sign up for golf and/or tickets for the dinner and band. Finally, Glenwood & Beyond will have a hot dog stand at Tom's Food Pride in Glenwood on Thursday, June 25th during the lunch and supper hours. Mark your calendars with these dates to support Glenwood & Beyond!

In these tough economic times, asking for donations is a very difficult thing to do. However, by working together it can be done with a large number of small pieces. Consider if 500 households each donated $40, Glenwood & Beyond would reach their goal of $20,000. Think of where you could save $20 this week and next to help Glenwood & Beyond reach their goal to provide fun, new playground equipment for your children and grandchildren as well as those from the entire community.

The public is encouraged to send donations to Glenwood & Beyond, P.O. Box 434, Glenwood, MN 56334. Glenwood & Beyond is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. Your donation may be tax deductible, so please contact your tax advisor for details.
