It was Rutter's suggestion if they allowed this to happen, it would be in exchange for the rent on the port-a-pots and also to pump the splitter box at the pond site one time a year. Other council members felt this was a reasonable exchange and would benefit the city as well as the individual. The only other option would be to charge by the load dumped and the city would then pay for the other two services. It felt this would be harder to keep track of properly and felt the other choice ultimately was the best. Attorney Brent Waddell updated the council on the lawsuit relating to the Fire Department which has been dragging on for several years. He told the council that recently he had told them the issue was settled; however now he has learned they have appealed the offer and the hearing has been set for June 8th at the appellate court. The other issue relates to the First Responders. The current First Responder group has retired and had turned all their books over to Greg Meyers at Glacial Ridge. Waddell said he was sure it was the council's desire to recruit individuals for the First Responders recognizing how important they were to the community. He asked that the council pass a resolution stating they would make an effort to get people certified and to maintain an active registration. Meyer had indicated if they could get four or five individuals together he would be willing to hold a class for this group this summer. The resolution was unanimously passed. In other business • Authorized a building permit for Carol Vander-Weyst. • Accepted the quote from Morris Seal Coat to seal coat and patch about six city blocks in the amount of $17,434. The six blocks are located mostly on two streets. • Also felt they needed to get a quote for the alley behind the bank. • Discussed picking up garbage on streets rather than alleys noting the garbage truck was likely too heavy for the design of the tarred alleys. • Authorized the bid from Darrell Pieske to shingle and do some work on the windows in the amount of $2,590. |
