Within just a couple minutes, Lady Lakeside was untied from the dock and roared out to the fire scene. On scene, firefighters pumped lake water to put out the fire. Once the fire was out, the boat was then towed to the DNR landing where it was trailered and towed to BK Towing in downtown Glenwood. About an hour later, at the towing company lot, the boat started to smolder and firefighters responded to the scene to again extinguish the boat. The boat fire reportedly started in the boat's inboard engine compartment. Glenwood Fire Chief Dave Orlowski said he's not aware of any fuel leaks into the lake. "A big thanks to Lakeside," said Orlowski. "It all went about as well as it could have." Lakeside co-owner Laurie Fettig said, "I just thought it made sense to offer them our boat. Of course we'd help them. It all worked out beautifully." Lady Lakeside captains Scott Fettig and Dave Lemke were on board to take the firefighters out to the boat fire. Lady Lakeside had a 2 p.m. cruise booked for that day and the big boat made it back to shore and was cleaned up and ready to go for the afternoon appointment. |
