Clerk Rutter responded that it appeared that everyone who had attended the meeting seemed to be in favor of mutual aid and had been active in discussing the needs and what they would be able to assist with in the event of an emergency or disaster.

Council member Lois Ness and Clerk Julie Rutter had recently attended a meeting regarding the upcoming 2010 census. The meeting had been held in Alexandria and the most important thing they had gotten out of the meeting was to educate their public the importance of the census and the importance of being counted.

Out of that they had been told to be sure their snowbirds were counted here and not in the sunny south. It is also important that college students be counted at their home instead of in college. Residents in Cyrus should be alerted that since most receive their mail in post office box, their census will likely be hand delivered as the census will be sending the census to street addresses only.

The census had been shortened. The 2010 census had been reduced to 10 questions that are to be answered in 10 minutes.

Rutter indicated that much of the information she will use in newsletters to residents in an attempt to get everyone to participate in timely manner in the census.

There was little discussion on tax levy and salaries. After some thought, council members adopted a 5 percent increase in the levy and agreed to leave all salaries at their current level.

It was also noted that the proposed 2010 local government aid payment will be $78,197 or down about $222 from this year.
