The 2009 U of M Extension Service Pope County Farm Family of the Year is the Mark and Michelle Halls family.

Kim Halls, Kelly Boersm, Michelle and Mark Halls, Kelly and Chris Halls.
Mark is the fourth generation of Halls to farm in Pope County. He is the second generation on the farm he currently lives on near Brooten.

Today, Mark and his family raise beef cattle and sheep. They feed out about 150 Holstein steers and lamb out about 90 ewes each year.

In the spring, the Halls have an annual show lamb sale. In addition to the livestock, they raise corn and alfalfa to feed the animals. They also raise soybeans and wheat to sell.

Mark and Michelle have three children: Kelly, Chris and Kim. Growing up, the kids were actively involved in 4-H and FFA. Currently, the Halls' son Chris, and his wife, Kelly, farm with Mark and Michelle. They raise stock cows and crops. Mark and Michelle are involved in various church activities.

Mark and Chris are also members of the Glacial Ridge Cattlemen's Association. Kim Halls, Kelly Boersm, Michelle and Mark Halls, Kelly and Chris Halls.
