The jail facility is located just a few feet from the historic Traverse County Courthouse. When inmates are scheduled to be in court in the neighboring courthouse, they are escorted outside and lead along 10 feet of sidewalk between the two buildings.

The Traverse County Law Enforcement Center includes space for Sheriff's Office administration and deputies, Wheaton Police Department, storage closets, work area and employee breakroom.

The Pope County LEC committee reportedly plans to meet within the next few weeks to discuss the tour and possible recommendations.

Over the last year, the LEC committee has focused its efforts on the feasibility of adding on to and remodeling the Pope County Courthouse for a law enforcement center expansion and new jail or space for holding cells.

The LEC committee has been tasked with researching options and making a recommendation to the Pope County Board of Commissioners.
