The Clothes Closet in Glenwood is under new management, and it has a fresh new look."I did some paint touch ups and reorganized to make things easier to find and improve the appearance of the place," said new manager Gerri Poppe. Before she took over running the store in mid-September, Poppe was a Clothes Closet volunteer for 10 years. The store offers used clothes, shoes, belts, coats and more at rock bottom prices. Children's clothing ranges from 25 cents for dresses up to $1 for coats. Adult clothing ranges in price from 25 cents for jeans up to $1 for blazers. "We charge very little for the items we sell - enough to keep the building up and running," Poppe said. There's an abundance of clothing options lined up on racks and shelves at the Clothes Closet: clothes for children, infants, toddlers, pajamas, shoes, sheets and bedding, adult clothing, plus sizes and maternity. The Clothes Closet relies on donations from the community. Although they have great variety in stock, there are several items they desperately need more of: coats for adults and children, men's jeans, children's clothing especially sizes 3-6X and winter boots for kids and adults. Donations of clean, seasonal clothes, coats and shoes in good condition are welcome any time. If you can't make it during the Clothes Closet's regular business hours, a large red box has been built just outside the building where donations may be dropped any time. The Clothes Closet volunteers are also asking for donations of plastic totes for storage at their facility. "We went from cardboard boxes to storing the off-season clothes in plastic totes. The Knights of Columbus St. Joseph Council was generous in donating 55 totes to this project, a few other people did as well," Poppe explained. "We could still use more so if anyone has some laying around that they plan on getting rid of, we will put them to use." Poppe said she has noticed an increase in the number of people who use the Clothes Closet over the last year. "The Clothes Closet has been very much appreciated by many people in our community, and we hear this comment regularly from the people who come here," Poppe said. The Clothes Closet is located on Sixth Avenue NW in Glenwood next to the foodshelf, and it's open Monday through Thursday 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-3:30 p.m. |
