29 year old man sentenced to 36 months in jail

Jedediah Svec, 29, was sentenced on January 4 in Pope County District Court to 36 months in jail, a $1,500 fine and must provide a DNA sample after a jury found him guilty of two felony counts of assault-second degree-dangerous weapon and terroristic threats-reckless disregard risk, as well as two gross misdemeanor counts of assault-fourth degree peace officer-physical assault and obstructing the legal process-interfere with a peace officer. As part of the sentence Svec will get credit for the 40 days of jail already served.

According to court papers, the charges stem from an incident on March 13, 2009 in which a car allegedly driven by Jeremiah Svec, 26, Lowry, failed to pull over when Minnesota State Patrol Trooper Natalie Hanson tried to stop the car for speeding north of Lowry.

The car eventually pulled over at a home located at 28317 110th St. near Lowry when a struggle between Jeremiah; Jedediah, who was a passenger in the car; and Trooper Hanson ensued. As part of the struggle, Jedediah allegedly grabbed the arm of Trooper Hanson in an attempt to free his brother from her grasp. He later went inside the residence and emerged with a Remington 870.12 gauge pointed in the air. After walking around for a short period of time he unloaded the shotgun and surrendered to authorities.

Facing felony counts of fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle and making terroristic threats, as well as gross misdemeanor charges of DWI and obstructing the legal process; Jeremiah Svec is next scheduled to appear in court on February 4.
