Recently, Lageson said he was approached by one person to allow a group of couch surfers to build a snow fort and participate in a variety of winter activies on the Lageson's two acre piece of land on the south side of Lake Minnewaska. "We want to pay back for all the times we stayed with other people," he said. Though he is playing host to the gathering of couch surfing friends, Lageson said much of the planning for the February 12-14 event is being done by people he and his wife met at a previous couch surfing campout last summer. According to a Web site set up in honor of the gathering, visitors can participate in everything from snowshoeing, sledding, ice fishing, and snow sculptures. The site also states one of the goals of the gathering will be to build one of the area's largest snow forts. Dubbed "Couch Surfing Snow Invasion 2010," Lageson said anyone from the area who would like to join in the weekend's festivities, including building the large snow fort, is welcome to attend. For more information, check out the Web site dedicated to the couch surfing invasion at www.couchsurfing.org/meetings.html?mid=59349. • Editors note: While Neil Lageson said everyone is invited to join them in their daytime activities, like building a snow fort or sledding, Lageson said they will not be offering overnight accommodations to the public. Anyone who would like to attend the outdoor activities during the day will need to make hotel accommodations elsewhere. |
