“I’m counting zeros and I got to zero number three and I thought ‘Oh this is going to be nice,’” she said. As the fourth zero was uncovered, Dokken was in a state of disbelief as yet another zero was unveiled before revealing the entire $500,000 jackpot. Still not sure if what she was seeing was real or a mistake, she passed the winning ticket to the person sitting next to her and asked whether they saw the same thing she did. “I said do you see what I see, and he didn’t say anything so we called the bartender over,” she said. After running the bar code through the lottery machine, Dokken was informed to call the state lottery office to collect her prize. The next day she drove to Roseville where the card was inspected for authenticity and lottery officials explained what may happen when she gets home and people learn of her new found wealth. Since she returned home, Dokken has received a number of marriage proposals, was contacted by some long-lost relatives, but mostly has received well wishes by passerby’s and friends. After taxes, Dokken received around $338,000. Her plan is to use part of the money to take her sister and daughter on a trip, make some repairs to her home, and invest for the future. But for those who expect Dokken to trade in her day job for a troll, hammock and large garden, not-so-fast said the $500,000 jackpot winner. “Do I intend to quit my job, no,” she said. |
