A golden retriever is recovering after being shot twice and left for dead near Glenwood. At first a passer-by in rural Glenwood thought the dog had been hit by a car. But veterinarians who examined the 2-year-old dog found it had been shot not once, but twice. Rescuers have named the dog Annie. She's being helped at the University of Minnesota's Veterinary Medical Center. Vets put Annie's chances of recovery at 60 to 70 percent. Annie's in intensive care after surgeries, and her medical bills already top $7,500—and could exceed $12,000. The group Retrieve a Golden of Minnesota is raising money for the dog's recovery. The story has received national television and newspaper coverage and is quickly spreading on the Internet. The police are reportedly investigating, but it's not known if there are any suspects in the shooting.
