Women golfers complete the grand hand

Find Team Scores At End Of Article

Yes, Minnewaska is State Champs for Year 5 (their motto was "one for the thumb".  There were 8 teams, (one from each section) and a total of 88 players.  The weather was fine on Wednesday, but Thursday was windy, good thing the girls tee'd off in the morning.  After day one, MAHS lead the strong Redwing team by 14 strokes.  Sara Roering had low score the first day with a 71, and Allie Ostrander was second with a round of 73.  All MAHS girls had good scores the first day and the top 4 girls totaled 305 strokes.  Redwing followed with 319 strokes for the top 4 girls.  Other teams were quite a ways back.

Now, day 2, Pleasant but windy weather, warming through the afternoon.  The high winds made shot placement difficult for everyone.  The girls finished before the storm system hit the Jordan area.  The low two scores for this day were again, Sarah Roering with a 79 and Allie Ostrander 77.  Add it up.  BOTH Sarah and Allie take FIRST PLACE IN STATE INDIVIDUAL and the MAHS team won the State Title for the 5th year in a row with a two day total of 632 !  Redwing finished second, 15 strokes behind MAHS with a 647.

Alexis Guggisberg and Jenna and Breanna Janu and all the girls played very well....You'll have to call the other families for their individual scores.

Grampa Vatthaure was dancin' and grinnin'!  He is so proud of how the girls use their strength of teamwork to earn their achievement.  (Bit of braggin'....Allie had an unbelievable shot of the tournament....from the sandtrap on the 9th hole, a 60 yard shot sideways into a strong wind onto a sloping green and she plopped it within 5 feet of the hole, then sank the side-hill put for par.)   After the awards were received, they all took a running plunge into the pond!  Not Grampa though.....
