100 Years of Girl Scouting

In honor of the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting, the Pope County Museum in Glenwood, Minnesota will be exhibiting “Girl Scout Uniforms through the years.” The exhibit is open and will run through March. Come and see uniforms and memorabilia from the 1920’s through today. There will also be Girl Scout Cookies available for sale starting February 14 through March 18 or as supplies last. The Pope County Museum is open Tuesday – Saturday 10-5.
The Girl Scout exhibit is free, but visitors are encouraged to visit the rest of the museum as well. Admission is $3 for adults $1.50 ages 13-18 and $.50 for kids 12 and under. The Pope County Museum is located at 809 South Lakeshore Drive in Glenwood – right across from the swimming beach. Call 320-634-3293 or e-mail www.

From the Glenwood Herald January 26, 1912
Reports received from Pope County and all other parts of the state are to the effect that, if weather conditions are favorable there will be a very large crowd in Glenwood on the fourteenth of next February to witness the ski contest.
he Soo railroad has published a twelve page booklet about Glenwood. The booklet is called Rest for the Weary and it gives the advantages Glenwood possesses as a summer resort. It is illustrated with numerous views of Glenwood, Lake Minnewaska and surroundings. It states that Glenwood is famous for its lakes and drives, that the fishing is excellent and that it has the best water in the world. Among the points of interests it mentions the State Fish Hatchery, the spring water plants, the Library and Point Lookout.

Pope County Museum is Looking For Girl Scout Uniforms Wanted
The Pope County Museum in Glenwood will exhibit Girl Scout uniforms in February and March 2012 in honor of the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting and the annual Scout Fishing Derby. They have several uniforms in the collection and on loan from the 1950s to today. From the Glenwood Herald December 22, 1911
The Lowry creamery burned to the ground last Wednesday morning. The fire was discovered about 2 o’clock in the morning but the flames had then gained such headway that the fire company could not extinguish the fire.
The little four year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Torguson walked all the way to the Halverson farm south of the lake last Monday afternoon. Her mother noticed she had disappeared about 2 o’clock in the afternoon. A hunt was started and she was found two hours later, two miles out in the country. The little girl was well dressed and had no bad effects of her long walk.
O. E. Jensen was so unfortunate as to swallow a tack last Monday evening, while tacking cloth on the ceiling of his home.
