Have you rubbed noses with your cats today? Even though they choose to ignore you when called and live in a world almost entirely their own, they need affection like a dutch rub from time to time or a good brushing, combing and pedicure if they still have their claws. Cats let you know when they want to be petted and when it is time to stop. Remember cat time is not people's time. Their attention span is appallingly short. They do not like to be awakened abruptly from a nap even if you feel the urgent need for some affection at the moment. Being fed on time with a menu they like is the primary task of whoever is in charge of providing them with all creature comforts. They also like to have their water dish clean and full at all times with fresh water. A bowl of warm milk is a nice change of diet for them as well. They prefer it at room temperature, not right out of the refrigerator, I know from experience. It is puzzling how they always run to the door to see exactly who is coming to their home, and then run away quickly when they see it is just you. Cat's do not have masters and mistresses. What is important to them is place. For a cat "Home is where the heart is." They would prefer not to share it with another cat, but any human being who attends to their basic needs is acceptable to them it seems. A dog wants a master. He displays wild affection for almost any human being and does not let up. He jumps about with wild abandon when he recognizes a friendly face and salivates generously all over anyone who stoops to pet him. (This is the chief virtue of cats: they do not drool or knock anyone to the floor in an ecstasy of proffered friendship). For some unknown reason, a dog can sense when a human being is threatening, unlike a cat who usually seeks out the most unfriendly person in a room to jump up on and shed unwelcome hair.with gay abandonment.A dog will live anywhere, go anywhere his master takes him and feel perfectly at ease. Place matters little to canines although they do love to run outside more than to lie still inside. with little to do. Dogs have been known to rescue people in peril. I have never read of a cat doing the same thing. Dogs grieve when left alone and sometimes do not really recover if a master dies. Cats do not read obituaries. Dogs will eat anything they can swallow and are never fastidious about table manners, but some of the bigger members of the species can eat like a horse.I am not an expert on feral cats, but even they are more like human derelicts than dogs are. They are extremely suspicious of anyone who might want to trap them and make them respectable. They are great panhandlers, but prefer that the benefactor keep his distance. If wild cats are forcibly introduced to a household against their will, they can be unbelievably nasty. This is a trait they also share with humans. Dogs are truly Christian in their willingness to forgive and forget. I have never heard a cat apologize for anything. When choosing a pet, the person reveals his or her true personality. Cat lovers are not dog lovers or if they are both, they are definitely schizophrenics. The names of cats are always amusing proving that cat lovers are greater wits than dog lovers when they name a feline Rumplestiltskin, Eva Gabor, St Teresa of Avila, Erotica, Exotica or Neurotica, or Pugmuffin, while dog lovers are usually content with the tried and the true, Rover, Pal, Lassie, Trixie, Buster or Patsy. Right now is a good time to visit the Humane Society in your city and take home an animal. They are overloaded because of the economic slowdown and many families are abandoning animals so they do not have to feed them. Truly a house is not a home without pets. Just stroking a cat can add years to your life just by reducing high blood pressure. On the other hand kicking a dog or harming any animal in any way will be written down in a heavenly ledger by an irate servant of God, and that person will pay for it in spades come Judgement Day!!!!! |
