Certified Half Marathon to be held May 8thThe Warm Up committee is still looking for event sponsors. Businesses or organizations that lend their support will be listed on the race's web site and t-shirts. To learn more about sponsoring the popular race, contact Ron Erno at 320-760-5855. The event has attracted more and more runners each year, starting with 65 in the first year and attracting 195 runners last year; organizers are hoping for 300 runners this year. Registration and race headquarters are held at Lakeside Ballroom in Glenwood. The half-marathon begins at 8 a.m. at Starbuck Community Center and ends at Lakeside Ballroom in Glenwood; the 10K Run starts at 8:15 a.m. along County Road 18 and ends at Lakeside Ballroom; and the 5K Run starts at 8:30 a.m. on County Road 17 near Peters resort and ends at Lakeside Ballroom. The half-marathon is USA Track and Field certified and sanctioned. Distances are accurate and eligible for state and national records. Prizes include: $500 for first place runners in the half-marathon, $300 for second and $200 for third; 10K and 5K first winners will receive $100; and there are prizes for top runners in several age categories. Plus, a unique twist in the race is the $100 prize awarded randomly to finishers. Participants can register online at www.minnewaskawarmup.com. The early entry deadline is April 15. |
