City Council proceeds with Sewer and Water projectThere were few items on the agenda at the Cyrus City Council at their regular meeting, April 13, that required action by the council. Among the items on the agenda were placing port-a-pots in the park, a request from the school for funds for a project and election judge pay.A letter from the CMST school requesting assistance for the Accelerated Reading Program was presented. After some discussion. A council member made a motion to donate $500 from the Runestone Telecom funds. All council members felt the program was certainly a worthy one in giving young children the enthusiasm and encouragement to read. This year is an election year and the council will need to appoint judges and see they have the necessary training before the elections. Two years ago there had been some discussion at the council regarding salary for these individuals. Judges have been paid $8.50 an hour. This year, the council raised that to $10 an hour to be more in line with other election judge reimbursement in the area. For several months there has been discussion to have the water and sewer lines mapped. This is especially helpful to maintenance people when problems with the two systems occur. A proposal from Widseth, Smith and Nolting to do this was accepted by the council at their Tuesday night meeting. Action was taken to have a port-a-pot in the city park this year. Council member Gary Ness said he would contact the individual and get the port-a-pot in the park shortly. It was also noted that community volunteers will be painting the fire hydrants in town sometime this spring and early summer. |
