Laker girls golf team wins fifth consecutive state title

The Minnewask aArea Lakers Girls Golf Team won its fifth straight state championship Thursday afternoon at the Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan.

The Lakers took a 14 stroke lead after the first day of the tournament and fended off a charge by Red Wing on Thursday to win the Class AA Title by 15 strokes.

Sarah Roering and Allie Ostrander, the Lakers' two senior golfers, tied for medalist honors, each posting a two-day score of 150. Roering shot a 71-79 and Ostrander shot a 73-77 to finish as co-medalists.

The Minnewaska Area girls' team had stiff competition this year from Red Wing, but despite very hot and windy conditions won the fifth consecutive crown. The Lakers won in Class A in 2006 and 2007, before moving up to Class AA the last two years.
