First ever Freshness Festival Saturday, July 17Bring your family and appetite to celebrate local food! The first Freshness Festival will be held Saturday, July 17, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Pope County Fairgrounds. The Freshness Festival is held in conjunction with the Pope County Farmers Market Saturday morning. The festival will feature chef-led cooking demonstrations by Paul Niemczycki, Ben Cogger and Emily Tweit. They'll share recipes that put the spotlight on produce from the Pope County Farmers Market, chicken from Kadejan and locally grown pork. Samples of the prepared food will be available to sample! In addition to the chef demonstrations, many of the sponsors will have informational booths available to learn more about starting new farms and gardens, plus, learn what's in season and how to prepare meals with fresh produce. The Pope County Soil and Water Conservation District booth will demonstrate how to plant seeds and visitors can take home a free "seed in a cup" to watch it grow. There's also an opportunity to win produce baskets to be given away every 30 minutes during the Freshness Festival. Sponsors of the first Freshness Festival include: Farm Service Agency, USDA, Pope County Soil & Water, Buy Fresh Buy Local, Pope County Fresh, Minnesota Grown, Pope County Farmers Market, Tammy's Scones-n-More, Eagle Bank, Glenwood State Bank and Kadejan. |
