The excitement around town is beginning to build for the 55th Annual Waterama celebration!The excitement around town is beginning to build for the 55th Annual Waterama celebration! July 20-25, hundreds of people will flock to Glenwood to celebrate the most exciting, fun-filled days of the summer. This year's Waterama Admiral Todd Stensrud said, "It is our hope that you and your family will enjoy the many activities throughout the week and into the weekend." Stensrud is joined by Commodore Kari Nelson, Vice-Commodore Terri Richards, Queen Robyn Mithun, First Princess Sarah Faehnrich, Second Princess Abby Kreitlow, Junior Queen Greta Reichmann and Junior Princess Haylee Wildman in welcoming everyone to Waterama! The 2010 Waterama launches into action Tuesday, July 20 - that day, the first clue to the popular Waterama Medallion Hunt is released and Central Square will host the a capella group, "Blend" that evening. The Pope County Museum will share its collection of Waterama memorabilia in the Eagle Bank lobby July 20-23. Plus, on Wednesday, July 21, the museum staff invites everyone to the re-opening of the museum's military exhibit featuring local men and women who have served our country. The museum is offering free admission through the summer. Minnewaska Showstoppers' performances of Paint Your Wagon will take place in the Minnewaska Area High School auditorium. Performances start at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, Thursday, July 22, and Friday, July 23. The Saturday, July 24 performance begins at 5:30 p.m. Downtown Glenwood will be buzzing Thursday and Friday during Crazy Days - vendors will line the sidewalks, and the sales run from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The Johnny Holm Band will play from 9 p.m.-12:30 a.m. on Friday, July 23, during the street dance in front of Lakeside Ballroom. On Saturday, there are many opportunities to take part in sporting events - everything from a golf tournament at Minnewaska Golf Course and the 36th Annual Rotary 5K/10K Run/Walk and Glenwood State Bank Magic Mile beginning at City Park to the Swim Races at City Beach and Women's Alumni Soccer game at the museum fields. Also on Saturday, the Park and Shine Car Show and Vintage Snowmobile Show and Shine will definitely glitter under the weekend sunshine at Barsness Park from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. At 1:30 p.m., the 53rd Annual Kiddie Parade will travel through downtown Glenwood. Then, at 2 p.m., the Junior Royalty Coronation will take place at City Park. Saturday evening, the Bald Eagle Ski Show will perform at 6:30 p.m. along the lakeshore near City Park. From 9 p.m.-12:30 a.m., Sell Out Stereo will perform during the Saturday night Street Dance in front of Lakeside Ballroom. At 9:15 p.m. the Midwest's only Lighted Pontoon/Boat Parade will float along the shore beginning at City Beach. That night, an awesome fireworks display will sparkle and boom over Lake Minnewaska beginning at 10 p.m. - the fireworks rain date is Sunday, July 25. As Waterama winds down on Sunday, the Annual Rotary Pancake and Sausage Feed will be set up at City Park from 7-11 a.m. in conjunction with a Community Church Service at the park beginning at 8:30 a.m. (rain location is Central Square). At 1 p.m. on Sunday, the wildly popular Waterama Grande Day Parade will wind through downtown Glenwood. Check out page 16A for a map.
