Preschoolers go to school in new space

rr05_250During the last few weeks while kids were soaking up the last moments of summer vacation, Rainbows and Rhymes Preschool staff have packed up their classrooms and moved to a new location just a few blocks away.

Next Tuesday, Rainbows and Rhymes will open its school inside the Glacial Hills Elementary School building on Starbuck's west side.

"We've been trying for a couple years to join up with Glacial Hills," said preschool teacher Marla Watson. "I think it's a positive move; it will give the students an opportunity to interact with other school kids."

Although the schools share space, they remain separate entities.

Deb Mathias, Glacial Hills Elementary School Principal, told the Times, "We're very excited. Eventually, we hope the preschoolers will attend kindergarten here, too. It's win-win for everyone."

Watson said there are 13 children enrolled to attend Rainbows and Rhymes Preschool starting Tuesday. Parents have the option to send their child to a full-day or half-day of preschool.

Rainbows and Rhymes is located in the former clinic area of the building and three rooms were remodeled to accommodate the preschool.

Volunteers are needed during the morning hours to help out with classroom activities. Contact Marla Watson at 239-3840 if you can help out.
