This years Minnewaska Warm Up is dedicated to Sarah Hoidahl

aIMG_0514a_250One hundred and seventy T-shirts have been printed in memory of Sarah Hoidahl, who died suddenly last January.

The T-shirts will be worn by Hoidahl's coworkers from American Solutions for Business and Hoidahl's family members in the Minnwaska Warm Up on Saturday.

Hoidahl was an avid runner. The T-shirts are a way for those who were close to Hoidahl to show how much they miss her. The T-shirts will be lime green with a picture of Hoidahl on the front and a poem about Hoidahl on the back. The poem was written by a close friend of Hoidahl.

As of last Wednesday, 240 people have already registered for races, and registration continues through Saturday morning. Early registration is encouraged to receive a race T-shirt.

Hopes are high that the sixth annual Minnewaska Warm Up and the certified half marathon around Lake Minnewaska on May 7 will attract a large group of runners.

Last year, the certified half marathon, along with a 5K and 10K race, drew more than 300 runners.

One of the drawing cards for the race is the fact that the half marathon offers prize money. "There are very few races that give financial rewards," Ron Erno, a race organizer, explained. He said the Minnewaska Warm Up is able to give the prize money because of the major sponsors of the race.

This year, the half marathon race will again begin at 8 a.m. at the Starbuck Community Center. There will be transportation from the Lakeside Ballroom in Glenwood at 7:05 a.m. The race will take runners around Lake Minnewaska and finish at the Lakeside Ballroom.

The half marathon and other races will all be held on Saturday, May 7. Other race options for runners include a 5K, 10K and kids' races. All kids 12 and under are invited to challenge their running skills and participate in a 5K (3.1 mile) race.

The 10K race begins at 8:30 a.m. at a starting point on County Road 18, and the 5K race begins at 8:15 a.m. on County Road 17 at Peters Resort.

For more information on the races or to register, check out the Web site: www.minnewaskawarmup.org. The race committee is currently looking for more volunteers to help with organizing the race as well as helping with race day responsibilities.
