We are attaching a copy of the invitation to participate in the Battle of the Businesses Bowling event which will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2009, at either 4:00 PM or 6:30 PM.  This annual event is a fun competition of Glenwood Lakes Area businesses versus Alexandria Area businesses and the current defending champion is Good Samaritan Society - Glenwood Lakeview.  We already have fifteen teams registered for the event but still have space available for more.  If you have participated in previous years, you know how much fun this event can be!  Please call the Chamber to register your teams this week so we may give a final count to Garden Center Lanes.

This is the time of the year when our Chamber of Commerce members elect four new people for the openings on the Chamber Board of Directors. The new terms shall begin on January 1, 2010, and end on December 31, 2012.  Individuals whose terms are ending at the end of this year include Karen Bartels (Eagle Bank), Tim Douglass (Pope County Tribune/Starbuck Times), Wayne Martin (American Solutions for Business) and Terri Richards (Hunts Resort).  We have been very fortunate to have had these individuals as a part of our Chamber Board and we all appreciate their dedication and the time and efforts they have made to promote our Community.

We are currently seeking nominations for Board Membership for the four new terms of office.  Nominations may be made by any Chamber Member for Board Membership.  You may make a nomination by calling or emailing the Chamber with the name of the Board nominee and the business or membership they would represent as a Board member.  Chamber Board membership is a unique experience and an opportunity to interact with other business leaders in an effort to promote our community as a great place to work, live, shop and play.  It does take a commitment of time for at least one Board meeting per month and time to participate in Chamber events as often as possible.  Please contact the Chamber office with the names of individuals who would be good representatives for our Community and are interested in serving our Community and Chamber in this capacity prior to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2009.

The 2010 Minnewaska Area Visitors Guide is now in preparation and all Chamber members from the Glenwood Lakes and Starbuck Area Chambers are invited and encouraged to place ads.  The Minnewaska Area Guide is distributed across the five state area as well as at the Mall of America and is available at more than forty Chambers and Visitors Centers across the State.  This is the only magazine which will provide regional and statewide promotion for your business or organization and the Glenwood and Pope County area.  You need to call the Tribune at 634-4571.

Again this year, our Chamber would like to help all of us “Celebrate the Holidays” by promoting local shopping at this busy time of the year!  Our Annual Christmas promotion will begin on Saturday, November 21st and continue until 3 PM on Monday, December 21st.  During this time, we encourage all of our Community and County residents to collect their receipts from local Glenwood Lakes Chamber businesses as they do their Holiday shopping.  For every $65 in receipts collected, each person will receive one chance to register for Chamber prizes which include Minnewaska Dollars, 2010 Individual/Family Chamber memberships, and Grand Casino Gift packages!

Receipts may be brought to the Chamber anytime prior to 3 PM on Monday, December 21st and the drawings will be held at 3 PM on that day! (Purchases must be dated from November 21 to December 21).  To begin the Holiday Promotion, the Chamber will hold their Annual Open House for the Holidays on Saturday, November 21st from 10 AM until 3 PM and our Christmas Open House on Monday, December 21 from 10 AM to 3 PM.

The Christmas Promotion Holiday flyer will be distributed within the next few weeks.  We encourage you to call the Tribune to place your business in the 2010 Minnewaska Guide and to register your team for the Battle of the Businesses Bowling event within the next few days.  We would also appreciate your input regarding nominations for Chamber Board terms beginning with the new year.
