For the past few weeks 64 volunteer Minnewaska Area Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors have been canvassing all area businesses, soliciting hundreds of items to be auctioned off Weds Nov. 17 on KMGK – ‘Smooth Magic 107.1’ Fm in Glenwood. According to KMGK Magic 107.1 - "Things are really shaping up for the upcoming S.O.S. Radiothon" which will take place just one week from today - Wednesday, November 17 beginning at 7 a.m. and running until all items are sold! All proceeds from the sale of these donated items will be given to the Minnewaska Area activity fund. The auction list is growing every day. It will offer area citizens a unique way to support our area students and their activity choices at Minnewaska Area schools. Such things as oil changes, auto and tire certificates, tanning and hair care, exercise and recreational coupons, discounts on motel and resort stays, lawn and garden equipment, musical instruments, food such as pizzas, tacos, general fare and bakery goods and many others will be available for listeners to bid on. There will be hundreds of ‘goodies’ to pick from. Some quite unique and interesting are slated for sale. Sporting event tickets, theatre passes and other entertainment coupons. No donation is too large or too small. They will all add up and the event will be fun and enjoyable for all. Please tune in and take part in a true community event for young and old. To donate in another way, individuals can either tune in and bid on many of the items or send a check made out to Minnewaska Laker Foundation, Po Box 241 – Glenwood, MN 56334. The cash donations will be turned in with the monies raised during the radiothon. If you have not been contacted and would like to be involved and contribute to the cause, please call 320-634-3909 [Pope County Collaborative] or [KMGK] 320-634-5358. We would be happy to send a student volunteer to speak with you. This is a great experience for them and we are happy to have them out and involved with the community. It is their way of saying thanks for all the support everyone is giving. For participating in the fundraiser and offering donated items, each business will receive in exchange for their items, full retail radio advertising from KMGK. The S.O.S. [Show Our Support] auction is a win, win,win opportunity for area businesses, the students and the residents of our communities. Rather than ask for cash donations, the all day radiothon will raise funds, give exposure to area businesses, involve the students with a volunteer effort. It is a true collaborative effort. As one businessman said, “It’s a lot more fun then having my taxes raised or having to make more cuts out at the school“. Yes, everyone can get involved and show their support. Steve Nestor and KMGK Magic 107.1 FM would like to offer "A very special thanks to the adult volunteer mentors Anne Beuckens, Jeannie Pederson, Mary Radjl, Dick Cordes, and Marcia Wold. The S.O.S. group wants to thank the Staff at the Pope County Tribune and Starbuck Times and the Lakeside for their assistance as well." Look for auction posters with lists of items and also future articles in the Tribune and Times. There will be upcoming interviews and promotions on KMGK in the coming weeks. Please tune in, and be apart of this unique and exciting event. Cody Rogahn, Executive Director This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
