Karl Pasche will begin his 2,840 mile journey this week
Up until two months ago, Karl Pasche had never owned a road bike.
But this week, he'll begin a 2,840 mile journey from Seattle to New York City... one pedal at a time.
Pasche said, "Before this, I'd maybe ridden three miles at the most on a bike."
But now, over the last month, he said he's covered at least 300 miles. "I'm really getting into it, and I absolutely love it. Ideally, I would have liked to train longer and harder, but I think I'll be OK."
Pasche, 25, the son of Daniel and Jeanette Pasche, is a Glenwood native and just wrapped up his sophomore year at North Central University in Minneapolis, majoring in pastoral studies.
He said the ride is more about the cause than it is the cycling.

No surface water or groundwater were contaminated by the spill
On Saturday, June 5, just after 9 a.m., a semi truck and trailer rolled and released 6,000 gallons of farm chemicals into the soil.
The crash happened on State Highway 104 south of Terrace.
According to the State Patrol, Anthony Carlson, 27, of Willmar, was driving the semi and when he tried to move over to make room for oncoming traffic, the truck's tires caught the edge of the road, and the truck rolled into the ditch.

"(The new computers and program) allows us to get patient information to the hospital a lot quicker so they know what we are dealing with," said Greg Meyers
In the battle between life and death, time is of the essence. However, Glacial Ridge Emergency Services and Training Manager Greg Meyers is hoping that new computers installed in each ambulance rig will transform a seemingly never ending drive from a handcuff, to a fact finding mission.
Used in conjunction with the Electronic Medical Records at Glacial Ridge Health Systems, doctors can pull up patient information and compare it to certain vital signs being transmitted from the ambulance to GRHS. Not only does the information help emergency personnel on the road, but gives doctors at the hospital a chance to relay important patient information to help treat the patient before the ambulance arrives at the hospital.

The spring turkey season went very well for most hunters in the Starbuck-Glenwood area.

This is the first year in which youth hunters ages 12-17 were guaranteed an over the counter tag. My boys and I were able to shoot 3 turkeys this spring, all of which were very exciting hunts. My son Justin---age 12--- shot his first turkey (14 ½ lbs) on his first turkey hunt of his life. He was very excited! The turkey population is growing in our area. We have the right combination of habitat (rolling hills, oak trees, crop fields, CRP, pastures and river bottoms) and the turkeys are thriving. An adult Tom turkey will weigh from 14-26 pounds. The spring turkey hunt is more popular today and the harvest in Minnesota hit another record in 2010. There is also a fall turkey season, but it is not as popular and the birds are more difficult to hunt in the fall. |
