GHES receives private loan to make up state funding shortfall
Glacial Hills Elementary School may not need to sell future state aid payments afterall.
During its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, Feb. 22, the GHES Board approved a motion to take out a $25,000 loan from a local individual who has asked to remain anonymous. The move comes just three weeks after the board approved selling future state aid payments to a company known as Charter School Capital to help bridge a gap between a decrease in monthly state aid payments and an increase in state aid holdback. As part of the agreement with the school, the loan will be paid back at a five percent interest rate over the next year.
The loan is necessary to help make up the immediate capital loss at the school because of an additional 17 percent holdback from state funding. The additional holdback money will be used to help balance the state budget and is scheduled to be repaid in the fall.

New Pastor Has Local Connections
Like many rural Minnesota pastors, Pastor Michael Hanson had a wide array of duties as the head of Clarkfield Lutheran Church. On any given day there were worship services, funerals, weddings, bible studies, visiting church members in their homes, and providing guidance.
It is perhaps that wide array of duties that ultimately led him to begin a new journey in his ministry- a chaplain at Minnewaska Lutheran Home and Glenwood Retirement Village.
While a pastor at Clarkfield Lutheran Church, Hanson led a bible study and worship services at a care center and assisted living center in Clarkfield which, "got me interested in being a chaplain."

Hetteen Cup snowmobile championship, vintage sled show roars into town this weekend
This weekend, vintage snowmobile aficionados from across the area will revel in the rumble and roar of "The Main Event" - a vintage snowmobile race and show.
Approximately 75-100 retro sled racers are in pursuit of the coveted Hetteen Cup Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. on Lake Minnewaska in front of Lakeside Ballroom in Glenwood.
The Main Event culminates the entire vintage snowmobile racing season for racers from across the region; there are five vintage snowmobile racing associations in Minnesota that host races throughout the winter.
But it all comes down to who can claim the coveted Hetteen Cup - named for Edgar Hetteen "The Father of Snowmobiling."

St. John's Lutheran Church near Starbuck, MN host discussion about LCMC
LCMC Forum on Sunday, January 17th at 2:00pm about 50 people from eleven congregations gathered at St. Johns Lutheran Church, rural Starbuck. It was an informational forum on LCMC – Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ. Mrs. Anne Gran, of Garfield, who is on the LCMC Board of Trustees was the presenter. She was assisted by her husband Pastor David Gran of St. Lukes in Garfield and St. Petri of rural Brandan-Evansville.
Pastor Sarah Taylor of CrossWind Lutheran Parish started the session by reading Psalm 46 and prayer. Then Anne and Pastor Dave explained that LCMC is Lutheran by confession, congregational in structure and free for mission in Christ. Their ten point presentation covered the benefits for pastors, benefits for your church, freedom in Christ, accountable to one another, rooted and grounded in scriptures and Lutheran confession working to fulfill the great commission to go and make disciples of all nations.
Then they answered questions for another hour. |
