Central Square will sponsor a Ping Pong Tournament on Saturday, February 28 beginning at 9:00pm.  Tournament play will include Singles Competition for ages 16 and under, and 17 and over, both males and females together.  Play will be double elimination, providing the opportunity for everyone to play at least two matches.  There will be prizes for 1st and 2nd place winners in both classes.

Registration fee is $7.50 and includes free beverages.  Lunch comprised of Barbecue sandwichs, chips, cole slaw and a cookie will be available for $5.00.

One Man Play: "Dr. King's Dream" PDF Print E-mail

Central Square Cultural and Civic Center will present "Dr. King's Dream", a stirring one man play about the life and career of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Thursday, February 12 at 7:00pm.  It is written and performed by Warren Bowles an actor/playwright with Mixed Blood Theater in Minneapolis. Drawn from Dr. King's own words (speeches, sermons, writings) the play dramatizes this remarkable man's courage, dignity and the achievements of his life before his assasination in 1968.  The play is being presented in celebration of Black History month.

General admission tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students, available at the door.

There will be a reception for the actor following the 45 minute performance.  Everyone is invited.

Fargo Moorhead Youth Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Jane Linde Capistran

Central Square Cultural and Civic Center in Glenwood will present the Fargo Moorhead Youth Symphony Orchestra in concert on Sunday, Feburay 8 at 3:00pm in the historic auditorium. This fantastic group of over 100 talented Senior High musicians will perform a repertoire of classical and popular symphonic music, including an unusual opportunity to hear a Tuba solo. The instruments involved in this symphony orchestra include violins, bass violins, violas, cellos, flutes, piccolos, oboes, clarinets, bass clarinets, bassoons, horns, trumpets, trombones, tuba, timpani/percussion and keyboard. The students are under the direction of Jane Linde Capistran, Assistant Concertmaster of the Fargo Moorhead Symphony and a violinist herself.

Tickets and reserved seating for the concert are available by calling Central Square at 320-634-0400 or toll free at 1-866-497-0400. Admission is only $3 for students of all ages and $15 for adults. There is a family ticket special of 2 adults with 2 or more students for $30.

There will be a pizza party back stage following the concert for all area student musicians to meet the members of the Fargo Moorhead Youth Symphony Orchestra and share their passion for playing their instruments.

This program is made possible in part by a grant from the Lake Region Arts Council with funding from the Minnesota State Legislature.

 
Sheldon Theater Brass Band to Perform Holiday Concert PDF Print E-mail

csq_300The Sheldon Theater Brass Band, a 30 member performance group of top notch musicians from the Twin Cities and Red Wing area will present a Holiday concert entilted Yuletide Brass at Central Square Cultural and Civic Center in Glenwood, on Sunday, November 23rd at 3:00pm. Their program will include a variety of great marches, overtures, popular jazz tunes and Holiday favorites. Their instrumentation includes cornets, flugelhorns, tenor horns, baritones, euphoniums, trombones, tubas and percussion.
