From the Desk of Matt Feigum - Park Ranger at Glacial Lakes State Park

Minnesota State Parks have had a great season.  Permit sales, camp and day use have improved across the board.  Glacial Lakes is no exception.  Our sales are up 37 percent! The total number of visitors through September 2009 is 49,380.  The total attendance in 2008 was 45,365 for the entire year!  That's a ten percent improvement with three months to go.
The important question is, will this trend continue?  Can we meet our exceed these numbers in 2010?  The answer is YES!  A large factor in our increased use was the four new cabins that were opened on July 1.  The Cabins are year-a-round and they continue to be booked on the weekends, even in the winter.  The park will have groomed ski and snowmobile trails which should lead to much more winter use.  Next year we hope to have an area Naturalist that can provide programs in the park on some weekends and we will have the cabins reservable for the entire year.
We have had a busy year in 2009, and I look forward to more of the same.
